This Cookie Policy explains how DublinDigit uses cookies, browser storage and related technologies on dublindigit.ie.
It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small pieces of information that a website or related service may store on your browser or device.
Cookies can perform different functions, including remembering settings, maintaining sessions, measuring Website usage and supporting other technical functionality.
Websites may also use technologies that perform similar functions, such as local storage.
Not every storage technology is technically a cookie. In this Policy, we distinguish between cookies and DublinDigit's local consent-preference storage where appropriate.
2. Our approach to consent
DublinDigit distinguishes between:
- technologies necessary to operate or remember essential Website preferences; and
- optional analytics-cookie storage used by Google Analytics.
Analytics cookies are not treated as necessary Website storage.
When you first visit the Website, analytics-cookie storage is intended to remain denied by default unless you choose to accept analytics cookies.

3. Necessary consent-preference storage
DublinDigit uses the following local browser-storage preference:

Type: Local browser storage / consent preference
Provider: DublinDigit
Purpose: Remembers the visitor's analytics-cookie preference so that DublinDigit can apply the selected consent state on subsequent page views or visits.
This preference is used for consent management and does not itself enable advertising personalisation.
Because it is used to remember and respect the visitor's privacy choice, it is treated separately from optional analytics cookies.
Its contents and technical implementation may be updated where reasonably necessary to maintain the consent system.
4. Google Analytics 4
DublinDigit uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand Website usage and performance.
Our current GA4 Measurement ID is:

The Website uses Google Consent Mode to communicate consent states to Google.
The way GA4 operates differs depending on whether you accept analytics cookies.
5. Google Analytics cookies
If you choose Accept analytics cookies, DublinDigit may update:
analytics_storage = granted
Google Analytics may then use first-party analytics cookies.
The principal GA4 cookies currently relevant to the Website include:

Provider: Google Analytics
Purpose: Used to distinguish users for Google Analytics measurement.
Default lifetime: Up to 2 years, subject to Google Analytics configuration and renewal behavior.
_ga_<container-id>
The exact suffix depends on the applicable Google Analytics identifier.
Provider: Google Analytics
Purpose: Used to persist session state.
Default lifetime: Up to 2 years, subject to Google Analytics configuration and renewal behavior.
Google's technical configuration and cookie behavior can change, so the precise cookies present on a device may depend on the current Google Analytics implementation.
6. What happens if you continue without analytics cookies?
If you select Continue without analytics cookies, DublinDigit keeps:
analytics_storage = denied
In that state, GA4 analytics cookies such as _ga and _ga_* should not be set, accessed or read for Analytics measurement.
However, DublinDigit is moving to Google Advanced Consent Mode.
Under Advanced Consent Mode, the Google tag may operate while analytics storage remains denied.
This means that limited cookieless measurement pings may still be sent to Google Analytics.
These requests do not rely on GA4 analytics cookies.
According to Google's current Consent Mode documentation, cookieless pings may include information generated through ordinary browser and HTTP communications, such as technical device or browser signals.
Google states that when analytics_storage is denied:
- Analytics cookies are not set, accessed or read;
- cookieless pings may still be sent to Google Analytics; and
- those events may be used for measurement and modelling.
For this reason, DublinDigit does not describe the "Continue without analytics cookies" choice as meaning that no analytics-related communication whatsoever occurs.
The choice means that analytics-cookie storage remains disabled.
7. Advanced Google Consent Mode
DublinDigit's intended default Consent Mode state is:
analytics_storage = denied
ad_storage = denied
ad_user_data = denied
ad_personalization = denied
These values are intended to be established before an optional analytics-cookie choice is granted.
If you accept analytics cookies
The intended state becomes:
analytics_storage = granted
while:
ad_storage = denied
ad_user_data = denied
ad_personalization = denied
remain denied.
If you continue without analytics cookies
The intended state remains:
analytics_storage = denied
ad_storage = denied
ad_user_data = denied
ad_personalization = denied
This allows DublinDigit to distinguish clearly between analytics-cookie consent and advertising-related consent.
8. Advertising cookies and personalisation
DublinDigit's current consent design does not treat acceptance of analytics cookies as consent to advertising cookies or personalised advertising.
The following Google Consent Mode values remain denied unless DublinDigit later introduces a separate and appropriate consent mechanism:

If advertising technologies are introduced in the future, this Cookie Policy and the Website's consent interface will be updated where required.
9. Why we ask for analytics-cookie consent
The Irish Data Protection Commission explains that analytics cookies normally require consent.
DublinDigit therefore does not classify GA4 analytics cookies as essential or strictly necessary merely because they are useful for Website measurement.
Analytics-cookie storage is intended to occur only after the visitor chooses Accept analytics cookies.
10. Changing or withdrawing your choice
You can reopen the Website's permanent Cookie settings control at any time.
If you previously accepted analytics cookies and later withdraw that choice, DublinDigit's consent system is intended to:
- change
analytics_storagetodenied; - prevent further analytics-cookie storage;
- remove DublinDigit-accessible GA analytics cookies where technically appropriate;
- preserve advertising-related consent as denied; and
- save your new consent preference.
After withdrawal, Advanced Consent Mode cookieless measurement may still occur while analytics-cookie storage remains denied.
11. Re-accepting analytics cookies
If you previously continued without analytics cookies or withdrew consent, you may later reopen Cookie settings and accept analytics cookies.
The consent system may then update:
analytics_storage = granted
GA4 analytics-cookie functionality may resume from that point.
12. Browser controls
Most browsers also allow you to inspect, block or delete cookies and site-storage data.
Browser controls operate independently from DublinDigit's own Cookie settings.
Blocking all cookies or storage at browser level may affect some Website functionality or prevent your consent preference from being remembered.
13. Third-party technology
Google Analytics is provided by Google.
Google's services are governed by Google's applicable privacy, data-processing and technical documentation.
Google may update its technology, cookie names, lifetimes, Consent Mode behavior or other implementation details over time.
DublinDigit may update this Policy where such changes materially affect the information provided here.
14. International processing
Use of Google Analytics may involve processing by Google entities or infrastructure outside Ireland or the European Economic Area.
Where personal data is transferred internationally, applicable GDPR transfer safeguards must be used where required.

15. Legal basis and privacy information
Cookie consent and personal-data processing are related but legally distinct issues.
Where DublinDigit asks for analytics-cookie consent, that consent applies to the relevant analytics storage and associated processing described to you.
It does not automatically constitute consent to unrelated processing activities.

16. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy where necessary to reflect:
- changes to Website technology;
- changes to our consent-management implementation;
- changes to Google Analytics;
- changes to the cookies or storage technologies used;
- changes in applicable law or regulatory guidance; or
- improvements to the information provided to visitors.
The current version will be published on this page with its latest update date.
